logs from Newfoundland Aug. 29-Sep. 6 ... fantastic condions

Hi everyone: It has been a fantastic week. Conditions have improved dramatically, both on sw and mw. Many nights, I had both radios going. (I didn't get a chance to post last week, so there are actually nine days of logs.) A big highlight this week was numerous daytime receptions from the US, someth...

a few logs from Newfoundland, August 17-23

Hi everyone: Not many logs this week, particularly from Europe. I was away from the radio from Thursday to Sunday afternoon, so I missed the peak times. Sunday night saw an actual hurricane make landfall in Newfoundland. This is the first time that I can ever remember an actual hurricane landing her...

logs from Newfoundland, August 10-17

Hi everybody: One very interesting thing about this weeks logs is that every station was from the USA, Italy or the Netherlands. Not a single pirate from the UK or the rest of Europe. I hope it's just holiday season and not a sign of things to come. Special thanks to the Dutch pirates who have been ...

logs from Newfoundland, Aug. 3-10

Hi everyone: Not a lot of stations on this week, but some very nice music from many ops. Spaceman and Cupid, in particular, had good tunes at a decent listening volume. New stations this week were Shortwave Combo Holland, Batavier (mw), Voice of the Robots (US) and Wolf Radio (US). It was nice to he...

Logs from Newfoundland to August 2

Hi everyone: It has been a strange week. Signals on 42 and 48 m have been fading in at the normal time, at pretty much the usual volumes. 76m, however, has been fading in very late (around 2300 UTC or later), if at all! Signals on mediumwave are behaving like 76m, fading in late and at low levels. (...

logs for July from Newfoundland

Hi everyone: I was away for a while, and have been busy since I returned, which is why no posts for a while. I was just going to post the last weeks loggings, but there were some nice mediumwave loggings early in the month (just before my trip), as well as Summermeeting Radio, which I was fortunate ...

Logs from Newfoundland, June 22-29

Hi everyone: It was another active, but challenging week. Lots of stations heard, but most very weakly, which made identification difficult. As always, thanks to the users of Iann's chat and the frn for assistance with IDs. I have noticed an interesting phenomenon lately. I have been getting a brief...

Logs from Newfoundland, June 15-22

Hi everyone: Conditions were not very good for transatlantic reception this weekend. Although I did manage to hear quite a few stations on 48 and 52 m, reception was weaker than usual, and 76m faded in so late that I only caught a couple station's carriers before they closed down. On the plus side, ...

Logs from Newfoundland, June 11-15

Hi everyone: Not a bad weekend here on "the rock", although reception from Europe seemed weaker than usual, resulting in quite a few tentative listings. I also felt like I was fighting against time each evening, hoping stations would fade in here before they would close down. The time diff...

Ray is correct

Thank you Ray. You are absolurely correct. I usually compare my UNIDs with other dxer's logs on Monday mornings, before posting my logs. This week, I was really rushed, and made an obvious mistake. As for the Radio Delta Oscar tests, the operator contacted me in private chat while I was in Ia...

Logs from Newfoundland, June 2-7

Hi everyone: What a great weekend! Lots of stations heard, even though it is not getting dark until almost 0000 here. The highlight of the weekend was Relmus' very successful test on 1720. Reception was solid for the entire show; the best mediumwave pirate reception yet. June 2 6925u 0050 Outhouse R...

QSLs from my first pirates!

Yesterday was a great day at the mailbox! I received a very nice QSL and letter from Borderhunter for my very first pirate reception, back in February. It brings back great memories of discovering Iann's chat room and meeting Frans and Alex. The card has been copied and posted in a special frame in ...

Logs from Newfoundland, May 25 - June 1

Hi everyone: Not as many stations active this week as last, but still some good listening. Thanks to Borderhunter, RFV, Spaceman and the "unknown" op on 3910 for some great late night programming. Thanks as well to Nova, The Poet and The Captain for the "heads up" about their sho...

rig and antenna

Hi Glowbug: Greetings to the west coast. I may be in your neck of the woods this summer. Yes, great conditions. It was a fun weekend. :D My receiver is a JRC NRD-525, and my antenna is a 75 m long wire, starting 30 m from the house, with a coax connector grounded at each end with 5 ft copper rods. 73...
