Logs from Newfoundland, June 11-15

Post by newfoundland dxer »

Hi everyone:

Not a bad weekend here on "the rock", although reception from Europe seemed weaker than usual, resulting in quite a few tentative listings.

I also felt like I was fighting against time each evening, hoping stations would fade in here before they would close down. The time difference between here and Europe has never been as noticable as it has during these long summer evenings. Many thanks to those handful of operators who "left her running" all night. You have at least one very grateful listener.

June 11
6270 2350-0200 Radio Amica (tent), music and talk in what sounded like Italian to me. 24331
6309,8 2357 UNID, presumably the same station that Alex (in WV) and I have been hearing most nights around 2345-0045. Never loud enough for an ID, but British accented DJ and music heard frequently, making me suspect a pirate. Any help with IDing this would be greatly appreciated.

June 12
6925u 0212 Spider Radio, Pet Shop Boys "It's a Sin", ID 24342
6910 2030-2315 Cactus Jack Radio, fading in early, music and canned IDs, up to 34342
6220 2130 Radio Altrex, very weak music and talk, ID 14441
6870 2140 Playback Int., relay of WMEX, 24442
6220 2145 Mystery Radio, music, CW ID, 34342
3900 2150-2330 Skyline Radio International, faded in early for 76 m, steadily improved, 34342 at 2300
6240 2150 Radio Altrex, music, ID 24441 (slightly better than 6220, moved to avoid Mystery)
6308 2207-2245 Cupid Radio, music, ID, phone number, 34342
6554 2255 Galaxy of Peace (tent), talk by man and woman (British accented English), music, 24341

June 13
6220 2030 Mystery Radio, live show //6870, 34442 already, better later
6870 2032 Playback Int., live show, //6220, 24441 now, much better later
5780 2035 Radio Geronimo Shortwave (tent), weak music, no announcements heard, c/d 2040, 24441
6239 2112-0005 Channel Z (US), 8 watt test, music and email heard 2120, then faded out until about 2300, peaked at 24342. (at start, it was still a complete daylight path from here to the US!)
5825 2145-0130 Radio Rapido, continuous music, no announcements, peaked at 24342 at about 2300.
5810 2157 UNID (possibly Radio Telestar South), barely audible music, American religious station sgned on at 2200, destroying reception.
6309,8 2217 UNID, barely audible music and talk, Sonnet Radio? or the regular "mystery station" (see June 11 log).
3900 2300 Sallandse Boer, finally heard a regular program from SB (have heard him giving reports to other stations several times), music, ID 34442
4025 2350 Laser Hot Hits, pop music, ID 34442

June 14
1672 0006 Klaas Snoek (tent), tuned in and heard 40 seconds of talk in presumed Dutch, c/d. (ID with assistance from Iann's chat). 24341 (Despite numerous carriers, this was my only mw log of the night)
6265 0040 Radio 48 (tent), had been getting a carrier all night, finally some very weak music and talk pokes through, too weak for ID 14341
6925u 0100-0120 Red Rhino Radio (US), the latest colour from the "Rhino Radio Network", hi! (colour was chosen by a listener poll). 45443
6851 0130 MAC Shortwave (US), music, interval signal, ID 34443
6930u 0145 Barnyard Radio (US), punk music, animal noises (ID via frn) 34342
6220 2050 Mystery Radio, music, ID, 34442 now, much better later
6559,4 2112 Radio Kima (possible), Have been trying for Kima for several weeks. Finally, I get a strong carrier and hints of weak music at a very early time, not enough for a report, but a possible.
6924.5 2120 UNID, very weak music, probably from US (heard by olddxer in Ohio louder than me) Possibly Captain Morgan, based on frequency.
5825,4 2150-0130 Radio Rapido, continuous music, not loud but consistant signal, 24342
6420 2205 Free Radio Victoria, ID, thanks for the greetings, music (Nights in White Satin), tremendous noise on this frequency, 34242
5751,4 2210 Best of Britan (tent), weak music, 24341
3895 2225 Bluestar Radio, music, thanks for the greetings, 24342
6991,2 2239-2300 Connection Radio (possible), extremely weak music poking through the noise, destroyed by splatter from WYFR signing on 6985 at 2300. Carrier still there at 0120 recheck.
6924.5u 2330 Captain Morgan (US), music, several IDs, email, up to 44443, best ever here from the Captain!
6264,8 2359 Radio 48 (tent), had a carrier again all night, finally some weak music, 14341

June 15
6925u 0037 Outhouse Radio (US), ID, asking if "Harry" is listening, 24341
6850,8 0105 MAC Shortwave (US), Paul Starr show, multiple IDs, oldies, 34443
5385,4 0220 The Crystal Ship (US), would never have checked this frequency, except for an e-mail alert from The Poet, music, ID 34342 (lots of static crashes)
6925u 0230 Spider Radio (tent), usual weak pop music, no ID 24341

Cheers, Terry

Thanks for the log of Best of British - amazing to be heard the other side of the pond with just 20 Watts! You must have a good receiver and quiet location.

Thanks again.

Hi Terry,

thank you for tentative logging of Radio Galaxy. Good to know that our tiny TX still works somehow.
From my side I can add that at Friday night we played show of FM station Radio Galaxy UK. It could explain British accent of presenters (indeed man and woman).
