logs from Newfoundland Aug. 29-Sep. 6 ... fantastic condions

Post by newfoundland dxer »

Hi everyone:

It has been a fantastic week. Conditions have improved dramatically, both on sw and mw. Many nights, I had both radios going. (I didn't get a chance to post last week, so there are actually nine days of logs.)

A big highlight this week was numerous daytime receptions from the US, something I have never experienced before. One station was over 3500 km away, and I heard him by complete daylight path. This is about the same distance from here as England, so I am really curious now as to whether it can work to the east. (I did try early Sunday morning ... only 3 very weak receptions, but maybe soon.)

This Saturday night was one of the best mediumwave conditions I have ever seen. I was jumping from station to station. I was then distracted from mediumwave by the loudest pirate I have ever heard, Undercover Radio, booming in at 54444 with a very interesting 20th anniversary show, comparing pirate radio then and now.

Other new stations included Radio East Coast Holland, Radio Spaceshuttle, Radio Paradise, Radio Tina, Radio Jimmy and several Eastern Europeans (if you can speak Greek or Serbian, and are willing to listen to a couple of audio files, please email me at ttoope@nl.rogers.com). A real highlight was Liquid Radio, whose signal travelled 4800 km, much of it through daylight, on just 10 watts, twice!

As always, many thanks to my friends in Iann's chat for their help with some IDs, particularly on mw.

Thanks for your first listening of R Spaceshuttle! And welcome to the small group of listeners who have ever done it there in North America.

Perhaps and hopefully it will be even more easy to catch us there in future.
