(HUGE) Pirate Radio Report from Dunlo, PA, USA, 20 Dec. 2009

20 DECEMBER 2009: Conditions seemed only fair when I awoke with bits of audio from Amica, Pirate Music, and LHH. The propagation data was just ‘normal’ as well. There was no 4 mhz MUF, but there was a 5 mhz MUF over a large part of the north Atlantic. So I wasn’t expecting much. And conditions...

Pirate Report from Dunlo, PA, USA, for 13 December 2009

13 DECEMBER 2009: I was surprised to be getting audio from Amica, LHH, and Pirate Music at home before I left for the remote site. So it looked promising. Indeed, conditions seemed fairly good when I started. After getting IDs on those 3, I got the Perseus recording and anxiously checked the band. N...

(late) Report from Dunlo, PA, USA for 6 December 2009

Sorry for the delay this week. There were just so many stations on the air Sunday morning, it took all week to review the recordings!!! Thanks to all the stations for going on the air. 6 DECEMBER 2009: Once again, the propagation data was indicating poor conditions. It was a bit unsettled due to a c...

Pirate Report from Dunlo, PA, USA, 29 November 2009

29 NOVEMBER 2009: By the look of the propagation data before leaving for the remote site, it wasn’t very promising. Indeed, conditions turned out to be poor to very poor. All signals were weak with a lot of quick fading. And again, there was a small 5 mhz MUF area over Iceland. Very disappointing....

Addition; 6205 on 22 Nov.

I have one additional logging. After seeing the logging on 6205 on Irish Pauls blog, I checked the recording and sure enough it was there. Maybe someone knows who this is. If so please drop me a line!! 6205 UNID. On at 0850:51. Then at 0852:30 "I'm On the Road Again" by Canned Heat, then o...

Pirate Report from Dunlo, PA, USA 22 November 2009

22 NOVEMBER 2009: Took the Perseus up to the SGLs for the usual Sunday morning Europirate micro-DXpedition. It was so quiet when listening to R. Amica at the start that I thought the preamp wasn’t working. Checked it and of course it was fine. Conditions really weren’t any better than they have ...

Pirate Report from Dunlo, PA, USA. 15 November 2009

15 NOVEMBER 2009: Went up to the SGLs with the Perseus setup for the first time without doing any testing. Conditions were about like last weekend. Really fady and a little more static noise. Overall, it was fair at best. Maybe slightly poorer. Still managed to hear a number of stations. Thanks to t...

Pirate Report from Dunlo, PA, USA 8 November 2009

8 NOVEMBER 2009: Having finished the coax lead-in filter chokes (and), I was anxious to test the completed basic Perseus mobile setup. Fortunately the weather was beautiful, so it wasn’t discomforting at all to lay out 2 parallel BOGs through the dark woods, one for the Perseus and one for the NRD...

Pirate Report from Dunlo, PA, USA, 1 November 2009

11 NOVEMBER 2009: Like every weekend as of late, I was anxious to see how the new Perseus setup changes/additions were going to improve reception; the new ARR preamp, and the matching transformer built yesterday. Getting set up went relatively smoothly. It still took a while, and thankfully it wasnâ...

Pirate Report from Dunlo, PA, USA 25 October 2009

23 OCTOBER 2009: Was looking forward to this Pirate micro-DXpedition all week as I was optimistically expecting an improvement in signal strength and noise reduction with the addition of a filter USB extension and preamp in the Perseus SDR setup. Unfortunately, conditions were disturbed and levels w...

Pirate Report from Dunlo, PA, USA, 18 October 2009

17 OCTOBER 2009: Took the Perseus and NRD out again specifically for the Free Radio Nova test transmission. Cupid R. was already on (long before) I left, so I was able to catch him since he hadn’t signed off yet. Unfortunately there was no sign of Free R. Nova for the 1:20 that I listened. I didnâ...

Pirate Loggings from Dunlo, PA, USA 11 Oct 2009

The cooler weather has arrived here and its time to start listening for Pirates again!! I bought a Perseus SDR a month ago in the hopes of being able to use it on micro-DXpeditions at the remote site here. Primarily to record the entire 48mb so as not to miss a broadcast!! (Indeed it already paid of...

Cupid Radio Heard in the US

Its been a while since I've reported. Now that the season is beginning, I hope to be active once again. Recently bought a Perseus SDR and have been working (with help from Guy Atkins) making a setup I can use at the remote site here. I'm planning on trying it out tomorrow morning. Hopefully propagat...

Report from Dunlo, PA, USA, 8 March 2009

Got a nice QSL sheet folded and stapled and sent like an aerogram from R. Skywire for 13 Dec. 2008 reception. Says 40 watts into a 10 meter high dipole. (7 March) 6220 Mystery R. After getting Chris Ise Yahoo SW Pirates post that CWR was on, checked the freq at 1849 not expecting to hear anything as...

Thanks!!

I was really surprised at the response to my post. I never expected so many ‘hits’!! I find it fascinating to read your replies. Everyone has their own unique viewpoint based on what they’ve experienced regardless of how long they’ve been in the hobby. Andy certainly has a great perspective ...
