UNID on 6400

Post by avranesjr »

:?: Hearing something on 6400 kHz. Thur. 26 April 2220 UTC. Can hear music, I think mode is AM, signal is about S-6 on S-meter of FRG-100B (with 60.9-m. dipole antenna), but bothered by moderate to heavy interferencce from SSB 2-way traffic, probably fishermen, in what sounds like Portuguese. Anybody else hearing this, and have any idea who this might be? :?:

I can also hear the same station, but a bit stronger here. Peaking s-9 and some interference from some SSB stations. I dont know who it is, but it might be Weekend Music Radio as they are using this frequency now and then.

:P Good evening, Peter! I heard WMR this past Saturday, and they were on 6400.3, and this one is dead on 6400.0, so not sure if them. And does WMR broadcast on Thursdays? I had thought they were basically only on the air Fri./Sat./Sun. Does anyone know if they are on the air ever Mon.-Thur.? Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanx! :P

Alex

P.S., Yes no longer heard here now also.

:beerparty: Thank you, my friend, and have a very good night tonight and a great day tomorrow (It's Friday!). I'm sure we will talk again soon, hopefully this weekend if the propagation gods permit us good reception, lol! I hope someone else, hopefully the operator, will help us out on this one. Only just before 1900 hours here, so I'll hoist a beer for you!

Yes it was WMR.

Comments on my blog confirmed it was them testing on 6400 and are also planning second tx to run on lower frequency.

:D Thank you UKDXer, I now will add your site to my Favorites to also check my loggings. Looks like we have similar equipment, except I had the outside area to put up a 200-foot, which is about 60.9-meter, dipole. And also thank you my friend Jorge. I have been trying for quite awhile but haven't had the luck to log RPI yet, but I am hoping that sometime soon the propagation gods will allow good enough reception to hear you. I hope you will be putting more shows on the air soon, as I have seen that others here in the Northeast part of the U.S. (I am about 120-km. or so west-norhtwest of Washington, D.C.) have heard you before. 73's my friends, and I hope we all have good loggings this weekend! :pirate-great:

Hi Alex!

Yes we have to stay in the hope... :D Nowadays I only use 20 watts so it isn't that much... so it isn't easy... Maybe when (and if..) I get a better QTH here in Europe we will raise the power again.... At least in our S.Am site we have a high tower and space around so the antenna can work at it best. We do have plans to rise the power there too, but that is in some years to come...when I can get down there on vacation again.....

Hi Alex,
Good luck hearing those Euro-pirates. I'm listening to Mystery Radio on 6220 at present - often reported in the USA.

:ahowy: Good evening to my friends in Europe! Mystery Radio was starting to come in fairly well about 45-min. ago, but nothing heard now. Also the sun finally came out after a miserably rainy night and overcast and cool day, and the temperature has gone up almost 10 degrees Fahrenheit, so reception conditions aren't as good and there's a little more atmospheric noise than there was just an hour ago. Now hearing something on 6925 USB but weak, no doubt from U.S. or Canada. And buenos tardes to mi amigo Jorge. Yes, 20-w. will be difficult from Euro-transmitter here, but in the past at a location about 20-km. west of here and at a lower altitude, I had logged Radio Apintie in Surinam w/50-watts and HCJB on 26 MHz. w/100-w., and also CKWX in Vancouver on the western edge of Canada on 6080 w/only 10-watts! So not impossible, but quite a catch to hear you now. But I'm in good location, on the Northeast edge of Blue Ridge Mountain, which is the N.E. edge of the Shenandoah Mountains, part of the Appalachian Mountains. I am just over the top of the Mountain, on the western side, so you would think it would block some signals from the east. But I'm only about 2 city blocks from (and farther up the hill) from a man-made lake, and on the other side is another hill, so it probably bounces some of the signals from the east back this way across the lake. And I had room to string the 60.9-m. dipole around the house. It's not quite center-fed w/coaxial cable running into the house, with only about 10-m. running to the left of the feed point. This portion runs basically east to west, and about the mid-point, it turns about 90-degrees to the right, so that half is running basicaly south to north, so probably gets good reception from all directions. And it's hung well above the ground, probably a good 6-m. above the ground between very tall trees, but insulated from them w/ceramic and plastic insulators. So all in all, it seems a rather good QTH for reception, even surrounded by very tall trees that might hinder reception somewhat. I have been able to log WMR, Radio Borderhunter, Cupid Radio, Olympia from Greece, Mystery Radio, and a few others that I couldn't ID from Europe since moving here 3½ years ago. You might be able to hear North American pirates over there around 6925 kHz., which is the most popular pirate frequency here. I just ID'd the stn. on 6925.1 as WBNY/Radio Bunny, but sounds like they are now going off. But this freq. should be active later this evening our time. 73's to all, and good pirate DX this weekend. I am hoisting a beer for all, lol! :beerparty:

Alex

P.S.: 2255 UTC on 6925.0 USB hearing the Canadian National Anthem, so Radio Maple Leaf is now coming on the air. Usually good signals here, so might be heard in Europe as well.
