Good evening to my friends in Europe! Mystery Radio was starting to come in fairly well about 45-min. ago, but nothing heard now. Also the sun finally came out after a miserably rainy night and overcast and cool day, and the temperature has gone up almost 10 degrees Fahrenheit, so reception conditions aren't as good and there's a little more atmospheric noise than there was just an hour ago. Now hearing something on 6925 USB but weak, no doubt from U.S. or Canada. And buenos tardes to mi amigo Jorge. Yes, 20-w. will be difficult from Euro-transmitter here, but in the past at a location about 20-km. west of here and at a lower altitude, I had logged Radio Apintie in Surinam w/50-watts and HCJB on 26 MHz. w/100-w., and also CKWX in Vancouver on the western edge of Canada on 6080 w/only 10-watts! So not impossible, but quite a catch to hear you now. But I'm in good location, on the Northeast edge of Blue Ridge Mountain, which is the N.E. edge of the Shenandoah Mountains, part of the Appalachian Mountains. I am just over the top of the Mountain, on the western side, so you would think it would block some signals from the east. But I'm only about 2 city blocks from (and farther up the hill) from a man-made lake, and on the other side is another hill, so it probably bounces some of the signals from the east back this way across the lake. And I had room to string the 60.9-m. dipole around the house. It's not quite center-fed w/coaxial cable running into the house, with only about 10-m. running to the left of the feed point. This portion runs basically east to west, and about the mid-point, it turns about 90-degrees to the right, so that half is running basicaly south to north, so probably gets good reception from all directions. And it's hung well above the ground, probably a good 6-m. above the ground between very tall trees, but insulated from them w/ceramic and plastic insulators. So all in all, it seems a rather good QTH for reception, even surrounded by very tall trees that might hinder reception somewhat. I have been able to log WMR, Radio Borderhunter, Cupid Radio, Olympia from Greece, Mystery Radio, and a few others that I couldn't ID from Europe since moving here 3½ years ago. You might be able to hear North American pirates over there around 6925 kHz., which is the most popular pirate frequency here. I just ID'd the stn. on 6925.1 as WBNY/Radio Bunny, but sounds like they are now going off. But this freq. should be active later this evening our time. 73's to all, and good pirate DX this weekend. I am hoisting a beer for all, lol!
Alex
P.S.: 2255 UTC on 6925.0 USB hearing the Canadian National Anthem, so Radio Maple Leaf is now coming on the air. Usually good signals here, so might be heard in Europe as well.
