London Calling.
Another poor week for conditions.
But a few stations heard anyway and the noise was not too bad till the afternoon.
The only station heard on Saturday was Baken 16 and he was the best I have heard him this year.
Victoria not as strong on 52m as he normally is on 48m,but as 52m has less noise he was a good,
solid signal.
Orion was his usual good signal and nice programme.
Good to hear Scotland and Borderhunter back,I think this is the first time I have heard either of
them this year.
Orang Utan with another solid signal.Nice clear frequency and he has very little fading with me,
so he comes in well.
As for Laser, nothing on 4015 and 6210 was only audible for a few minutes this morning.
Great to hear Zodiac back after such a long time away, but in the afternoon the noise levels here
were terrible and it did not help when he was flattened by another Dutch station!
Still, good to have Zodiac back and maybe different times and frequencies will deliver better results.
Best signals of the weekend go to Orion,Scotland,Borderhunter and my UNID on 6220.
With Baken 16 a good second.

Re: London Calling.
Another poor week for conditions?
Actually, a poor week for listeners. But it's not just the low number of stations received. It's the lack of interesting programmes.
I'm not talking about a professionally produced programme (even though I wouldn't mind at all if someone puts a lot of effort into it). But there should be something that makes me and other listeners stay tuned. See what I mean? Could be some strange music, some funny remarks, some interctive shows. Most of what I heard was someone putting on his winamp playlist and giving out an ID from time to time.
Well, that's my point of view. Things looked a bit different over the Christmas season.
Thanks Andy for your logs anyway. Much appreciated.

Thanks Andy For the log and comment much appreciated.
@dxtunefish, it is alway hard to do what must been done. There are so many listeners with so many diff. interest. Some like to be with you live in a chat, others like to catch as many stations as possible, some like good programms some like rock, some dutch etc etc. In that case you have to be on air for 24/7 so you can reach as much as posible; but that is imposible.

couldn't agree more.with Jojo, It's hard te please everyone. The only thing that bothers me sometimes are the cowboys who play endless music without any idea. But that is my opinion. greetings, Zodiac, Martin

Re: London Calling.
Well, I wasn't going to point the finger at anyone in particular, and certainly not at those who try their best to put together something for their listeners. But I don't think this is a question of trying to be everybody's darling. This is impossible anyway, and as a station operator you have to decide for yourself what to use your energy for.
For instance, if a station is playing a blend of music I normally wouldn't listen to, that's alright ... if I get the impression that there is some dedication behind it and that someone has an idea of what he is doing. But a lot of stations just play ... whatever.
As a pirate you may ask yourself "Why should someone listen to my station for more than 5 minutes?" Is there something that can attract an audience for a longer period of time?
What is most annoying are those operators who don't want to talk to their listeners. And there seem to be more and more year by year.
Come on, that is not radio!

Re: London Calling.
I understand your point dxtunefish,(Great name BTW),but I was entertained by some of what I heard.
I especially enjoyed the music and comments from Free Radio Victoria,Orion Radio,Scotland,Orang Utan and Borderhunter and if conditions had been better,
I'm sure I would have enjoyed Laser and Zodiac too.
There is perhaps a higher level of professional Pirate Radio on FM(At least in the UK),but for me personally,it's not to my taste.
And as JoJo and Zodiac have said,it is really hard to please all the listeners on SW.This is not like doing programmes for a specialist FM station that has
loyal listeners with a certain taste in music.
What level of programming are you expecting?

Re: London Calling.
I was going to say that this is almost a continuation of the discussion we were having on the Pirate Crap Heap before the website changed over. I see thats re-appeared now which is great.
Recording is well under way for the next FRSH 30th anniversary broadcast on Sunday 27th February (7600/5800, also 6085 via Radio 700 and also hopefully an extra 48mb frequency for the first part of the day). There is so much interesting stuff in there I cant imagine how (subject to conditions) someone wouldnt want to listen for more than 5 minutes. If conditions are rubbish then there will be a chance to listen to the internet stream later.
Cheers
Dave
