European Pirate Report from Dunlo, PA, USA, 20 January 2008

Post by Dave Valko »

6306.03 R. Boomerang 2102 caught voice-over anmnts by Boomie including ID, ".you're tuned to R. Boomerang with a short test transmission on 6306 kilocycles in the 48 shortwave meterband", then cont. mx. 2106 another anmnt, said was closing down, and ".time to listen now for another station.", cont. song, and off at exactly 2107:13. Some awful local intermittent QRM was wiping out the signal otherwise pretty nice. (19 Jan.)

6925U Spider R. (Greek Pirate) After learning from the guys on Team Speak that this was on, I went upstairs and tuned it in at 2136 and hrd unrec. mx. Because of the weak signal in USB, I had difficulty tuning it in. 2140 short anmnt but imposs. Faded down and inaudible after 2140. Voice UTE came on at 2152 ruining any chance. Back up with a little mx at 2227. SSB traffic started at 2231 causing more QRM. If that wasn't enough, some sort of swishing noise was passing back and forth over the freq after 2245, but Spider R. may have been off by then anyway. (19 Jan.)

1635 R. Vrolijke Mijnwerker Playing Polkas and Schlagers from 0110. 0116 anmnt by M w/ments of Zender Concordia, etc. Web rx. Tnx Henk in Dokkum for ID. (20 Jan.)

1650 Klaas Snoek R. 0119 big signal w/ID anmnt. Mentioned ".from ??, from Greece. This is also R. Klaas Snoek here. The station from Greece, ??, this is Klaas Snoek R. Good copy and ?? from Greece". (20 Jan.)

1657.4 R. Alpenjager 0120+ Schlager mx. Very fady signal and only fairly strong. Tnx Henk in Dokkum for ID. (20 Jan.)

1645 R. Vrolijke Mijnwerker 0135 M w/voice-over anmnt. Poss. ment of
Mercur, good morning, and "amateur". Then Klaas Snoeks signal came on at 0138 to QSO and off then at 0143 after anmnts. This came back on 0143 and Schlager mx. 0144 anmnt w/ID and tlk to Klaas Snoek R. Mentioned R. Zender Northsea several times. Tnx Henk in Dokkum for ID. (20 Jan.)

Once again the MUF was only 5 mhz this morning. S.F. was 71, A Index was 9, and K Index was 3. Very poor conditions. (20 Jan.)

6311.1 R. Barretina Int. (pres.) 0738 song by Seal. Dropped down then.
Couldn't even hear any audio at 0753 although the (weak) carrier was there. Definitely SP at 0806, so probably Barretina. Not a hint of a signal at home on my rx at this time, but was getting a fair carrier on 6311.17 at
0828. Web rx. (20 Jan.)

5815.05 Orion R. 0800 Weak w/Percy Faith s/on tune. Picked up a bit at 0802 and could hear it on my own rx. Faded back down at 0804 w/canned anmnt. 0819 "Don't Stop" by Fleetwood Mac, then live anmnts w/ment of messages from Marcel. Into song by Santana. Web rx. (20 Jan.)

6325 R. Lowland 0823 bits of mx. 0830 a little better. 0833 fairly good w/end of "Africa" by Toto, and into Dance song, then a Polka. 0838 complete f/out!! Tnx Achim. Still barely there at 0857 check. Better 0900. Finally short canned e-mail anmnt at 0902. Weak and very fady. Web rx. (20 Jan.)

6305 UNID. Found a carrier here on my own rx at 0840, OC on the Web rx then Pop mx start at 0841. 0844 Reggae song. Could even hear the Reggae on my own rx at 0846, and 0848 too w/"Rock Me Amadeus", but then local QRM took over. Song I believe entitled "Baby Come Back" to 0853. Suddenly off at end of song at 0900 almost exactly. Web rx. (20 Jan.)

6290 R. Borderhunter. M anncr weakly amid UTE QRM at 0907. Imposs. to copy. Achim said it was R. Borderhunter with Stefan Dietl tribute. Indeed "Memory Program" for Stefan anmnt at 0915. Into song "Keep It Up" as the signal was getting quite good. Web rx. (20 Jan.)

6400 WMR 0916 Rock mx. Andy Walker show w/anmnts at 0918 including ment of 6400, and also an ID. Het from presumed N. Korea. Excellent S-20 signal at 0955 w/anmnts by Jack and into "Wild Horses" by The Osmonds. Web rx. (20 Jan.)

6220 Mystery R. 0928 w/Dance mx. Wasn't there earlier. Good. Web rx. (20 Jan.)

6255.8 R. Dr. Tim 0934 alerted to this freq and heard loop of mx w/short voice-over multi-lingual anmnts about Stefan Dietl. Web rx. (20 Jan.)

6280 R. Merlin 0953 End of instru. Rock song, then IDs and back to mx. Good but was inaudible earlier while Achim heard it. Web rx. (20 Jan.)

6420.7 LHH 0956 song by Tears for Fears. 0958 "Laser International" ID and song anmnts. Good. Web rx. (20 Jan.)

6298 R. Dr. Tim 1000 Strong signal w/audio on and off. 1004 morning
greetings and ID over mx. Tlk abt Stefan Dietl. Voice audio sounded like a relay w/mic just held up to a speaker for Dr. Tims anmnts!! Web rx. (20 Jan.)

6310 R. Skywire 1009 "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zeppelin. 1014 "I Put a Spell on You". Fair and fady. 1018 short ID in EG, and into "She's a
Rainbow" by The Rolling Stones, and another short anmnt at 1019 saying it was a test and he'd be closing down which he did at 1020. Web rx. (20
Jan.)
