European Free Radio Report for week ending December 31, 2006

Post by curious george »

Nice way to end the year, with some excellent programs, decent conditions, and some big signals. Unfortunately, not that many stations on before 0900 UTC, which may have been due to storms across Europe overnight. Also, static crashes were at summer-like intensity.

For those interested, I've posted some audio files of these receptions here:

Happy New Year to all pirate operators and DXers!

PIRATE (Euro). 6210, Radio East Coast Holland, 0756-0830 Dec 31, Talk at tune-in, thought it was Frans from Borderhunter at first. Heard "Clocks" at 0806, then more talk. Voice-over "Clocks" at 0823, with New Years greetings, telephone number, and eastcoastholland@hotmail.com e-mail address given. Then into "Zombie". SINPO 24332. (Maroti-NY)

PIRATE (Euro). 6220, Mystery Radio, 1830-0030 Dec 30, Great conditions this evening, as this was already audible at 1830 UTC with "Keep on Rocking Me Baby". Nice selection of international pop music, with Chris Ise playing some French and German songs, much to the dismay of AW. Signal peaked to S9 levels around 2200 UTC. Nice response from listeners this evening, with several calls via Skype, and many e-mails. (Maroti-NY)

PIRATE (Euro). 6258.92, UNID, 0800-0815 Dec 31, Only a carrier, don't even know if a station was here or not. (Maroti-NY)

PIRATE (Euro). 6305, Radio Boomerang, 0839-0902 Dec 31, One of the strongest signals ever heard from a Europirate. Although only on briefly, enjoyed hearing "Love is a Prima Donna" which I haven't heard in probably 20 years. Greetings to me shortly before close down. (Maroti-NY)

PIRATE (Euro). 6327.4, Radio Saturnus (presumed), 0848-0858 Dec 31, Thanks to a tip from Achim, found their carrier here. Some weak audio, but impossible to copy due to utility QRM on same frequency. (Maroti-NY)

PIRATE (Euro). 6401, Weekend Music Radio, 0802-0857 Dec 31, A bit weaker than usual, recognized Jack Russel's voice, but didn't stick with it to get more details. Checked the frequency periodically to see if it would improve. (Maroti-NY)
