Early on Sunday morning 48m was skipping well to the USA,as you will have seen from earlier posts.This continued till quite a bit after 0800 UTC!But by 0930 things were settling down.Many stations heard in the USA & more proof that power is not so important when it comes to skip.The more power you run,the stronger your signal(Assuming good aerial & earth) but with skip conditions,most signals are carried,it is just that the more powerful transmitters usually have a stronger signal.What is often forgotten,is that the lower power signals skip too….it’s just that the signals are weaker.Good incentive for new operators starting out on low power.
The band around 6300 was a mess this morning.Mainly because of the skip conditions.Stations,mainly in The Netherlands,checked the frequency & heard it was clear,because stations were skiping.The result was 5,6 maybe 7 stations using 6295-6310 at the same time,all on top of each other.Nobody’s fault.
The problem was not helped by some splatter from Delta Radio.Good signal,nice mod,music etc but just a little too much splatter.With a signal as strong as this I can accept 5 Khz either side.But 10 Khz needs to be looked at.This is not terrible,we have all heard much worse on 48m but still,it needs looking at.
I have to mention WMR & Radio Ramona as they are both out there on there own clear channels away from the crowd & putting out some superb programmes.Keep it up guys!
At the other end of the dial,on 6210 some superb,clear signals from Cupid Radio & Radio Borderhunter no interference down there either.Here are my logs from London;
Saturday 02/12/06
3905 Khz – 2342- 2345 – Radio Borderhunter – 45334 – S8 – Closedown @ 0044
3915 Khz – 2152-2155 – UNID – 34333 – S6 – Relaying London station;â€
