European Free Radio Report from Dunlo, PA, USA for 3-5 Nov.

Post by Dave Valko »

No Solar disturbances this weekend (for a change!!) but conditions still weren't that good here. However there were number of stations heard. Went up to the remote site to listen to the R. St. Helena Day Revival on Saturday. While I was there I noted a few pirates on the band as well. First, a couple loggings from home.

6296.2 Cupid R. Noted anmnt at 2347 but just impossible to copy. Rinus said he got a nice SINPO from Dr. Tim at 0008!! (3-4 Nov.)

15071.25 Cupid R. 1454-1633 Live ID by Rinus at t/in and into Blackeyed Peas. Canned W ID at 1458. A couple more Pop songs including No Doubt and ID anmnt at 1505. Rinus actually put me on the air live via an audio conversation on MSN Messenger at 1512, 1519, 1524, 1529, 1536, and 1558!! 1515 nice ID and e-mail addr by Rinus and canned anmnt by W. Fady signal but fair on peaks. Peaked nicely during Natalie Merchant at 1536, 1553, and 1605. Getting some annoying local static noise at 1520. Finally lost to noise and fading at 1633. (4 Nov.)

4 November 2006

RX: JRC NRD-535D
ANT: 44' Dipole (cut for 11092 khz!!!) 15°-195°, 394' BOG at 95°, and 315' BOG at 50°
QTH: Pennsylvania State Game Lands #26
Duration: 1800-2240 UTC
Solar Indices: S.F. = 86 A Index = 6 K Index = 2 No storms.
WX: Mostly sunny, cool 38 F. (4 C.)

6401.03 WMR 2105 getting a carrier. Plainly heard "Goodbye Stranger" by Supertramp at 2224. Jack Russell at 2227 w/ment of Scotland. Bassy voice audio. Just too many UTEs. QSB was tough too. (4 Nov.)

6311 Carrier noted here at 2106, still there after 2130, but gone at 2142 check. Was this a station on the air?? Underground perhaps?? (4 Nov.)

6264.31 UNID. Getting a carrier at 2107. Sounded like mx at 2109. Still in at 2127 but gone at 2132. (4 Nov.)

6300.1 UNID. Antonio R.?? Carrier at 2117 and def. mx but too weak. Picked up and hrd end of phone number by M at 2137 check. 2138 ID by M "...listeners, this is...0031-6??0...and ah...". Noted more mx through the UTE at 2145. Finally clear at 2149. 2153 recognized "Mr. Tambourine Man" by The Byrds, and later "Catch Us If You Can" by the Dave Clark 5 at 2202. Tuned out at 2210, but still in there at 2233 although it wasn't any better. Who was this?? (4 Nov.)

6290.57 Just a carrier at 2122. Not there at 2140. (4 Nov.)

6288.97 Carrier at 2140. Probably nothing. (4 Nov.)

Back at home....

6220.23 Mystery R. 0631-0647 Pop/Dance mx, usual ID at 0646, more mx. Decent signal but really fady and kind of noisy. Wasn't on yesterday. (5 Nov.)

6296.25 R. Zodiac A carrier here at 0702, but pulsing UTE right on top. Drifted down to 6296.18 by 0727. (5 Nov.) IDed per Jari in the ALI Free Radio Board. Thanks!!

6211.25 UNID. Carrier at 0709, but not there at 0707 tune through. So obviously just signed on. Definitely mx at 0715-0717 w/M vclist. 0724 sounded like M anncr. Getting some SSB traffic QRM around 0729 and 0732. Recognized Top 40 Pop song w/W vclist "What's Going On" (not Marvin Gaye) from about 5 years (+/-) ago at 0731. Possibly M anncr again at 0732. Was gone at 0734. Really difficult to get any audio w/R. Borderhunter below. Anyone know who this was?? (5 Nov.)

6210 R. Borderhunter Big OC popped on at exactly 0710:34 while listening to 6211.25. Dance mx came up at 0712. 0718 nice ID w/ment of Sunday morning. More anmnts at 0722, and into mx by The Outfield. Later, "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac at 0736, another song, and anmnt at 0739 and 0741. Into instru. Polka. GM anmnt at 0743. More anmnts at 0820 check, and still going at 0900. Pretty nice signal but QRM from 6211.25 above (while it was on) and SSB Traffic at 0728. Modulation seemed a little low. (5 Nov.)

6306.36 Cupid R. Found this at 0739. Unreadable anmnt at 0742 and into Aerosmith song. Was surprised to hear one of my IDs from yesterday at 0756!! Still in during checks at 0819, 0830, and 0851. And still in w/threshold audio at 0900!! (5 Nov.)

6260.73 Orion R. Hrd here at 0746 but pretty weak. 0748 possible anmnt. Definite anmnt at 0816 and UTE came on briefly. Quick heavy fading. Because of the QSB and weak signal, I couldn't really copy anything. Freq was rock steady. Found it was gone at 0831. (5 Nov.) ID per op. John on the ALI Free Radio Board.

6401.05 WMR Nice signal here at 0800. Mx past 0803. UTE showed up by 0809 check and made it very difficult afterwards. (5 Nov.)

6290.8 Just a carrier here at 0806. (5 Nov.)

6259.8 Orion R. Carrier noted at 0833. Possible M anncr at 0838 and 0843 but couldn't be certain. Too weak and too much QRM from below. (5 Nov.) Confirmed it was Orion R. by op John on the ALI Free Radio Board. Said he had to move down in freq to avoid a UTE.

6293.71 Was getting a carrier here at 0855. Extremely weak. (5 Nov.)

That's all for this time. Thanks to those who have been kind enough to help with the UNIDs.

Until next time....

Hi Dave,
Thanks for your report.
Sorry I don't know who was on 6211.25. In fact I hearded nothing there. Radio Cupid did listening for 15 minutes on 6210 during the time I was on that frequency.
Rinus didn't heard me and put his signal on top of me. Dokter Tim from Germany hearded that and let me know. I asked Rinus to search for a other frequency and he did. You see, its possible to think the frequency is free but its not. So if some one can help you is perhaps Dokter Tim. He was waked up early and has big ears. (HI)
