London Calling.

Post by Andy Richards »

I knew it was going to be a good morning when I tuned into a crashing great signal from Orion Radio early this morning. One of the best Orion signals ever and almost no noise!

I know I have gone on about noise levels here before, but today I only really had problems on 4025 and 6870.The 52m and 48m bands were quiet.....................GREAT!!

The Paardenkracht was a good signal.Even when Borderhunter came on next to him,he powered through. That says something about Borderhunter's signal too.Hardly any splatter!
What a signal from Borderhunter too.............HUGE!Usual nice mod,but I prefer the older mic.
The one used today was a bit bassy.Or maybe it's not the mic,but the tone settings.

Merlin were nice and strong too.Solid, without interference.

Radio Brandaris was lucky this weekend.Much less interference than the last few weeks.
Maybe operators are trying to leave him alone.Usual nice mod and presentation.

Boomerang was much weaker with me than normal. On a normal Sunday he would be the strongest signal of the day.Not today, much weaker than Borderhunter or Orion here.I think Brandaris was at least as strong too.Conditions?Or a change in Boomi's set up?

Saturnus with a fair signal and music to my taste.Love the voice.............

I usually try 6550 and hardly ever hear anything. But at times,Brigitte were coming through OK here.
Same goes for Radio Waves Int.If I can hear Brigitte and Waves then conditions must be OK.

I tried for FRS Holland on 5810 and heard nothing except a strong East European station with a het.
They were pretty good on 7600 though..........interesting show too.

I also tried for Atlantic 2000 on 7610 and heard nothing.

Best signal of the day goes to Borderhunter, closely followed by Orion and Brandaris.
Boomerang,Merlin and Paardenkracht next.

Hello Andy, thanks for the report and nice comment, much appreciated. Indeed Borderhunter with a strong signal at ORN too! (s9+20-40dB) That was a long time ago, He had indeed a nice modulation, but the voice sounds weaker to me, Don't know if he used another mike, maybe he was talking in his cofee cup :P ? Frans where are you?

Hi Andy and John,

You see, its possible to get a strong signal on air without much splatter.
I hearded Paardenkracht before I started and maked a choise for the frequency. It was close by but I did know it was possible without problems. I always do my best to give a good signal with a good
modulation. Not only looking to the power but working on the quality.
Therefore thank you bouth for the comments. I still learn about that.
Next time I don't use the cofee cup as special effect but will try with a thea glass. It seems it gives a higher tone, we try out!
