London Calling.
Easter weekend has come and gone.
My prediction?;
>I have a feeling in my old Pirate bones that it might be a bit special.
>I might be wrong,but stay tuned anyway................
I WAS wrong..................not for the first time and probably not the last!!!
Conditions were still really weird and terrible.
I am not a radio expert.But I know a few experts read this forum.
Please answer this question;
When,exactly will SW conditions improve?

Hi Andy,
We need the follow sunspot. Now we are between the last one and the follow up. Happyness we are closer to the follow up one.
Its normal on SW. Some YEARS its a very hard job for broadcasters to send the signal away and for the listeners a even hard job to receive the stations. But when we have the follow sunspot its so easy that you can dream for times we have now. Its just the moment we are between this.
Stay alive and don't loss the intrest. One day...it start again!

I forgot, one sunspot is good for a day or night.
But we need the follow solar maximum. In that time there are many sunspots and now we are comming out of the solar minimum.
Every 11 years we have a solar maximum. Those people who were listening or broadcasting at the last solar maximum knows how unbelievable strong the signals can be during that time. But most people who just begin at the end of a solar maximum they lost there intrest before the follow one. I know, its a long time between but keep on smiling and before you know its there again.

I started to follow "Sun numbers" few months ago. Solar Flux was around 73. I read that time in an article, that it is so low that it is nearly impossible to be lower. Now we have 68...... This is excellent described in NASA's article:
The sunspot cycle is behaving a little like the stock market. Just when you think it has hit bottom, it goes even lower.
Also best answer of Andy's question:
So we know only it must be better but nobody knows when.Modern technology cannot, however, predict what comes next.
But maybe conditions will be better soon?
I monitor 15476kHz because LRA36 transmits here - only station from Antarctica continent (in AM). I hear only noise last months and whole 2008. But last weak I heard their program. Also yesterday there was signal too.
I belive current solar minimum is close to the end... It's time for it!

Great news now I'm experementing on 9.x kHz! The next few years will be good for higher bands, hopefully 15.8x kHz will be in use again.

Sounds good to me Nova! High frequencies reach me easily, but will probably skip central Europe where most of the listeners are...
And Foton I have strange memories about that Antarctic station. 2 December 1989 I came home from the hospital (my lady had given birth to my elder daughter) and I didn´t know what to do that evening so I swiched on the radio and happened to hear this Radio Nacional from the base Arcangel San Gabriel on 15476, with a long scientific talking in spanish. Some kind of lecture I think. I sent a report to them and also got their beautiful QSL-card in return. Stamped and posted on Antarctica.
LRA36 was a "hard catch" that time, later they raised power and became regular. I never did hear that other station on Antarctica. The US-station from McMurdo base. I think they were on 6030 kHz... DX-peditions in northern Finland did hear also this station with long beaverage-antennas directed South America. In December 1989 also 15 MHz was in use by pirates. I remember at least Eurosat, VOTN and WMR were using frequencies 15000-15070, trying to reach America.

Till now I have never received any reception report from Asia or Africa.. that will be a challenge instead of central Europe. I can always fall back on 76 mtr.Sounds good to me Nova! High frequencies reach me easily, but will probably skip central Europe where most of the listeners are...
9.x kHz can be used in the evening as well instead of 15.x kHz which is a typical day band, however always nice to try!
