Free radio pirates on medium and short wave messageboard of alfa lima

While it's great to have so many stations on the air as today.It also poses a dilemma for most of us "DX Listeners".
Listen to a station you are really enjoying or tune around?

You may be really enjoying what you are listening to,but what if you are missing something more exciting further up the band.......?

There is always that feeling,that you might be missing out on something else if you don't tune that radio......

Today,I tuned.I did listen to a few stations longer than 5 minutes.But if I'm honest,I probably didn't stay tuned to one station for
more than 15 minutes.Although I did go back to some.And I can say that there were some stations that I listened to for over 30
minutes in total.But in pieces.But there were many that I only listened for the 5 minutes in my log.

The point I am trying to make is that,although I enjoyed my listening this morning,it felt a little bit "Empty".

I wanted to experience more of what was on offer from the better stations but couldn't help myself tuning.......

Do any of you understand what I'm trying to say?I'm sure you do.

Maybe next week,I will try to listen more and log less.........

I know exactly what you mean Andy, and as a listener and broadcaster I can see both sides.
So it also leaves the radio stations with a dilemma. Do we just broadcast music and ID's, so that DXers can log us and then carry on tuning around, or do we spend time and effort trying to produce interesting programmes?

Last Sunday there were a lot of station on the band. I understand Andy complete. It makes your selection problematic.
I understand its not possible to listen long to a station when you know there are so many on. But many stations or less, I have the idea that not many people listen long in generally. Tuning over the bands is not bad, its intresting to catch others. But the time that most people listen 30 minutes or longer is passed Im afraid. Perhaps is that also the reson for some broadcasters to play long non-stop music without ID's. Then they are sure to have listeners so long they don't give a ID. Because he know from the moment he give his ID all listners (most) leave them and start hunting to a other log.
But heey all, have fun with the radio! Do what you want to do. And don't get in stress while you tuning over the bands, enjoy the freedom to listen so long YOU want.

Hi Andy, Dave, Frans and other readers, a small add on the tag,

Many stations means: listeners have a choise. But do they?
Outside western europe, listeners listen mostly to the strongest stations. They listen much longer to one station than listeners in the countries in and around the Netherlands/UK -according to RR's-. Many German listeners like polka /dutch music but in the UK they prefer more the sixties/sea pirates culture. I think our audiance is mostly dx-er, so give some dx and station info. Listeners want to be involved by the station, so give live response. (Why was Alfa lima International or is FRSH so popular?: yes, interesting contact with listeners! Would Alfred Skype today live?) Listeners realy want to now how your reception is in other countries! Mostly I play "the best of the best". The best mix in live show is, I think; connection with listeners and play good (proven) music. Listeners are more and more "spoiled" in real life: In FM you find al sort and kind of stations with there own music style. So pirate do it in your own way!! But be aware listeners want contact with you! The listeners who want to log so many stations as possible are in my opinion not the real listeners, they count only!! So stations be attractive and listeners will stay with you. One day even the many-loggers are tired of running the band over and over again and they will listen to your interesting and nice program!!

Hi Dave,Frans and Mike(And all Alfa Lima readers),

I thought it was a point worth making.It's nice to log a lot of stations(But others logged a lot more than me)
But this is not a competition,it is about enjoying yourself.And I realized that I would have enjoyed myself more if I had listened longer to the better
stations rather than "Tuning around".

I have listened long and hard to all three of you,and enjoyed every minute of it.For different reasons,sometimes the music,sometimes the info,
sometimes just the casual chat.It's all interesting radio.I won't make the same mistake again.
You can expect shorter logs from me in future but maybe more in depth comment on specific broadcasters.

All three of you make some very good points.But Mike says it all when he say's that "stations be attractive and listeners will stay with you".
He's right,even the DX'ers will return to you after they have tuned around a bit.

But as Frans says,at the end of the day let's not get too serious.Let's all enjoy our hobby in whichever way we please.

I just know that I'll be listening more from now on and tuning less...............

thanks for the log. Understanding your problem; I know some dx-ers use more radios'. One is used for listening the other for tuning over the band.

I do that too,but it's not the same.
You can't really enjoy two broadcasts at the same time.
Your concentration always goes to the "Tuning" radio!
