Easter logs from Norway - SW

Post by Kai »

Hi!

I spent the Easter with my parents, who live in the countryside outside Grimstad on the south coast of Norway. Super weather! And lots of interesting things to listen to on the pirate bands!

I’ve only included the stations I listened to for more than a few seconds (otherwise the list would have become very long!).

THURS April 21

1912-1924 6923 UNID playing country music (possibly) and dance music. Canned IDs. Difficult copy. S2

FRI April 22

1120-1128 6295L QSO between Cor (S1) and John (possibly Misti Radio, S2). John: mijn AM-zendertje, max 18W, zelfgemaakt, dicht bevolkte buurt, reports from Romania, USA, Canada ...

1128-11.45 6313 Skyline Radio Germany (SRG) with a test programme. Box 73 in Neede. ‘My Girlfriend's Girlfriend’, ‘Say Just Words’. Jingles. Two DJs? S1-3

1905-1919 6310 Magic AM, Amsterdam. Pop music. Hi to listener in Berlin. Jingles. Address in Amsterdam. S4

1919-1944 6310 Radio Merlin Int. with music from the 50s and 60s (I like listening to that kind of music once in a while!). ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’, ‘Ain’t That a Shame’, ‘Seven Little Girls Sitting in the Back Seat’, ‘You’re Sixteen, Your Beautiful’, ‘Rubber Ball’, ‘Lollipop’ ... Canned IDs, hi to the chat people. S4

2047-2058* 3905 Radio Underground. Song by Björk. Mr. Underground commented on the pronounciation of Björk and said the band was noisy tonight. ‘I Am the Cider Drinker’. S/off. SINPO 35232

2100-2110 6295 Radio Powerliner Int. playing Madonna and saying hi to Silveri in Catalonia. (I also listened to Powerliner on Sunday evening. A good station!) S4

2130-2221 6325 Radio Underground Int. Hi to listeners. Dutch music (for his Dutch listeners). Talked about the good conditions and mentioned KBC’s possible comeback. ‘On the Border’. Warm evening. Was outside and converted the aerial from 76m to 48m. Theory: atmosphere warmed up during the day –> good conditions in the evening. ‘Long-haired freaky people’... A good programme! Tnx, Mr. Underground! SINPO 34332

SAT April 23

2026-2135 6240 Grolschman Radio. Pop music, e-mail address, hi to me, Bony M (?), ‘Kung Fu Fighting’at 2130. TX breaks. Difficult copy. SINPO 24232.

2135-2145 3932 Bogusman with a new programme. Talked about his neighbours and played ‘Tissue Tiger’ by XTC. (I hope to catch the rest of the programme on the stream this weekend!) S3-4

2150-2204 Trans Europe Radio playing instrumentals and saying hi to listeners. Later moved to 6310 to avoid QRM. S4

2309-2323 6935 Mike Radio, NL with a broadcast for North America. (It seems he was heard quite well over there. Congrats. Mike!). Weak signal here (long skip now + I was using the ‘western’ antenna). S2

2323-2346* 6925 Captain Morgan, North America. ‘Have You Ever Seen the Rain’, ‘Born to Be Wild’, Jimi Hendrix song? Not possible to understand the spoken parts. ID via FRN/HFU. S2

0045-0048* 6930U UNID, North America. Music, ID (I guess), animal sounds (I think I’ve heard something similar on Pirates Week). S1-2

0056-0112* 6925 Radio Free Mars, North America. Tough copy, but I recognize some of the programme items mentioned on the FRN. S1-2

I’ve also downloaded Achim’s recordings of Wizard, Cupid and Saxonia and will listen to them in the week to come. (Thanks for the great service, Achim!)

HAMS

I was also listening to the Echo Charlie band (6.6 MHz). (I don’t know why, but I find that band immensely more interesting than the official ham bands.) There was actually quite a bit of activity. I heard stations from (conty/département/provincie level where possible): Zuid-Holland, Gelderland, Antwerpen, Côtes-d'Armor, Belgium, Eure-et-Loir, Tarn-et-Garonne, Pas-de-Calais, Mayenne, Hauts-de-Seine, Kent, Worcestershire (two), Belfast, Argyll and Bute and Overijssel. Lots of interesting conversations! (It’s probably not wise to publish a more detailed log.)
