Westcoast Finland log 24 & 25 January

Post by Jan II »

Saturday 24 January

6210,2 1044 Misti Radio was the only piratestation on 48 mb at this hour. 8 strong watts carried out "Chiquitita". 25322
6260,1 0828 Radio Altrex with popmusic. Was stronger last weekend. 25222
6870 0742 PlayBack International Weird Beard in the Master Control Central of 11-90 KLIF Dallas, Texas with a legendary radioshow from the 60's. "Johnny Angel", "Duke of Earl", "The wanderer", "Sealed with a kiss", "Locomotion"... Ahhh I love this old tape... At 0804 of course a short programme in korean language! After that "Pirates week". Almost perfect reception in the morning, also good afternoon, evening and night... 45544 :D

Sunday 25 January

3931,6 1625 The Bogusman playing songs and talking about having friends on Facebook. The programme ended 1638, carrier off 1642. 35333
5805 1033 Radio Spaceshuttle surprised me here with finnish rock, african music with homemade finnish lyrics (Dick of Space singing?) , Beatles etc. 23232
5810 0819 Orion Radio with Abba "The winner takes it all". Good signal! 35433
6209,8 0928 Radio Paardenkracht A long programme as usual. Still heard after 1130. "Love hurts" and other oldies. 25333
6220 1620 Mystery Radio with disco. Was gone when I checked half an hour later. 35333
6255 0832 Radio Saturnus announced the SMS-number and continued with "Mary Lou". 25322
6265 0827 Radio Altrex with old rock and blues. Still heard one hour later. Better signal than on saturday. 25333
6280,2 0904 unid but 99% Radio Merlin "Happy together", "Whiter shade of pale" etc. Faded away 15 minutes later, didn´t hear any announcements... 25222, later nil.
6290 1131 Voice of the Netherlands was rocking. "We will rock you" at this hour. Strongest after PBI this weekend. 35443
6304,9 1117 Radio Brandaris and "Monday monday" followed by some dutch music. 35333
6870 1445 PlayBack International with jazz. Outstanding signal this weekend. Only piratestation heard at this hour. Also the only station in the evening. 45544

+ unids identified through other logs on sunday: Shortwave Cowboys 5810, Misti Radio 6210,2, King Shortwave 6214,8 (also on Saturday).

Radio: NRD 525G
Antenna: 20 metres cupperwire from the window to a bush.

Again thanks to all stations struggling in the not so good radioweather. The background noice level seems to have been high at least in UK, hope it will be better next weekend. Up here the noice level was OK, but signals low.

Also mediiumwave was interesting sunday afternoon. Around 1400 UTC the lower part on the band was filled with slow tempo frozen and tired early morning-stations from Alaska. KBRW Barrow on 680 kHz had the strongest signal...

Hm, a cold beer from Alaska would have been nice, but I don´t have any. Do they make beer in Alaska..?
I just have to pick something from the cellar...

Thank you guys for the responce.

Nice to finally see a studiopicture of Mr Altrex from the land of cheese. Or perhaps... eh... Mrs Altrex.

A special thanks to Dick of Space who was very fast with a QSL-card. Also here "much skin". One of the QSL-army girls I guess...
