Free radio pirates on medium and short wave messageboard of alfa lima

Conditions are definitely improving.Once again a lot of stations heard.

Free Radio Victoria seem real enough to me.Despite my post two weeks ago from information received,this does not sound like a bogus station to me.Maybe the same name as another station,but that is all.Nice mix of Oldies played and very nice mic sound.Good voice too.
Grenstaad Radio had the best signal into my QTH so far.Good to hear a Belgian station for a change.
Good to hear a couple of UK stations on again with Merlin & Telstar as well as Bogusman.
Nice music and signal from Zodiac,followed by the biggest QSO I have heard on SW for a long time.
You may be surprised to know that I have never heard The Radio Jackie Story as played by EMR today.I will tell you why.Back in the late seventies and early eighties,Radio Jackie was a well respected Pirate station that were on the air almost every week,with signals that,whilst not strong in my part of London,were good quality and with good mod.The DJ's were good too.
Unfortunately the music was AWFUL.Boring Pop music that you could hear all the time on the BBC.
So I never bothered to listen to The Radio Jackie Story.Part of this story is about Radio Kaleidescope,who were staffed by many fed up Radio Jackie people.This was a much better station than Radio Jackie,with better signals and better music.But even at the age of 14 I remember thinking that "The Geeter with the Heater" was a bit of an idiot!
I met Nick Catford(Mike Knight) of Radio Jackie several times.He used to ride around London on a Sunday on his moped(Little motorbike) and track Pirate stations down and visit them.He tracked us
down several times.Nice chap,even went to prison for his belief in free radio..................Radio Jackie have a licence now.Unfortunately they are even worse now than in their Pirate days.What a waste!
Kiss FM are a better example of a Pirate station getting a licence.
Having said all that,the story was good.And now,after all these years,I know why the first transmission from Radio Kaleidescope was so strong at my house.They were only 15km away!!!
Strongest signal of the weekend came from Radio Shadowman today,but he was splattering 20Khz both up and down.Strangely,when he was in QSO on 6280 the spattering was reduced.
As for the rest,good signals from Scotland,Orion,Zodiac,Brandaris
Atlantis and Bogusman.
For the weaker signals I got really good clear copy from LHH and Antonio Radio.

Re: Radio Victoria. Another case of two stations - one name.

The Radio Victoria that has been heard on 9290 via Latvia is German and was a pirate back in the 1980s. Someone decided to put out a recording of one the Latvia shows on 48m - to the annoyance of the station.

Free Radio Victoria is Dutch and a regular on 48 metres and no hoax!

Always a problem when stations use the same name.

Interesting your recollections about Radio Jackie. I used to listen to Jackie in the early 80s, mainly as it was a pirate, although of course, it was trying very hard to sound like a local radio station.

By the early 80's Radio Jackie were really trying hard to be a "Local" or
"Community" station.You can't knock it.They got a licence!!
It was still boring though...................
I have a lot of respect for Nick Catford and some of the others behind Radio Jackie and even when I hear their theme tune I still feel a twinge in my stomach.But at the end of the day they were s leading light, a very regular Pirate with programmes as good as the BBC.
And just as boring!!
