Pirate stations in Greece!

Hi Everyone,

I am just back from a short weekend in Halkidiki, Greece. Of course I took my radio with me! I was surprised by the amount of pirate stations there!! They were not less numerous than their Dutch counterparts! They played nice Greek music and gave greetings in between. It's unfortunate that a language barrier prevented me from IDing them or understanding the content. Mh...perhaps a good reason to learn Greek?:)

I heard many stronger and weaker pirate stations on both MW and SW. On MW, the stations were abundant in the hours of darkness in the frequency range from 1620 to 1775 kHz! On SW, I heard Greek pirates on the following frequencies (kHz):

3245
3260
3360
3375
3400
3435
3440

So there is an entire new pirate SW band, unknown to many of us!!

All these frequencies are Harmonics from the powerfull MW stations that exist all northenr Greece.

In these frequencies there are no pirates in Greece.

Hope i help.

Thanks very much Costas! I didn't realise that...

...but why is it so that some countries, such as the Netherlands and Greece, have hundreds of pirates, while others have only some or none? What is in common about the Dutch and the Greeks??

There is nothing in common between these two countries for sure.

Netherlands is tidy when Greece is mess.
