European Free Radio Report for week ending April 1, 2007

Post by curious george »

Very good long skip conditions on Saturday evening, and probably the first time I've heard multiple stations on 76 meters. Best ever reception of WMR also.

PIRATE (Europe-UK). 3904.12, The Bogusman, 2246-2315 Mar 31, Thanks to a tip on MSN Messenger, could hear a fast-paced song at tune-in, then a voice-over and a lengthy dialogue about Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry. Mention of the Bogusman at 2302. At 2311 there was a song that sounded like X-Ray Spex or Poly Styrene. SIO 232. (Maroti-NY)

PIRATE (Europe-NL). 3927.5, Westcoast AM (presumed), 2305-2306 Mar 31, Just a carrier, but they were on at this time here. (Maroti-NY)

PIRATE (Europe-NL). 3940.14, Cupid Radio, 2224-2229 Mar 31, Conditions were good on both 48 and 76 meters. While in MSN chat with Rinus, he informed me he was on. Heard "Sunday Bloody Sunday" by U2 and and ID by a female. S5 signal, but a lot of stateside ARO chatter made copy difficult. (Maroti-NY)

PIRATE (Europe-NL). 6265.2, Cupid Radio, 2335-2350 Mar 31, Rinus moved here from 76 meters to clear 3940 for Radio Fox 48. Tested two different antennas during this time; heard songs from Ramstein and Blink 182. (Maroti-NY)

PIRATE (Europe-Greece). 6309.94, Radio Odyssey, 2205-2330 Mar 31, While listening to WMR, received a tip from Jerry Berg that this one was on. Heard two songs by Thin Lizzy, then the Stranglers with their version of "Walk on By". Modulation was a bit low. Came back to this at 2318, and modulation was stronger, with good bass response. Heard some nice Greek music, and mention of my name. S6-S8 signal. (Maroti-NY)

PIRATE (Europe-Scotland). 6399.9, Weekend Music Radio, 2030-2220 Mar 31, Thanks to a tip from Marcel in France, I tuned in and already heard some audio, which was surprising because it was at least 2 hours before my local sunset. Song from Steve Miller Band at 2035, clear, deep voiced "Weekend Music Radio" ID at 2051. Later heard songs from Rod Stewart, ABC, and a Billy Preston instrumental with a voice-over. Signal really peaked around 2200 UTC, when I heard talk from a female and an advert; I suspect Jack Russel was playing a DX recording. Adam and the Ants' "Price Charming" at 2202. At times there was ute on LSB, and pescador chatter on USB. Signal eventually peaked to S7, SIO 333. Best I've ever heard WMR. (Maroti-NY)
