Unlike mainland Europe, the weather in England this morning was clear & sunny……..just like conditions on the 48 metre band!By 1400 the band got noisy & busy very quickly.
Surprises were the return of the UK old timers,Telstar South, slick & professional programmes, only to be expected from guys with so much experience!
The other surprise was RNI.Who are they?German?Good programmes.
Radio Borderhunter has always had good signals, but in recent weeks they have got so much better,as have the programmes.I loved the jingles & adverts. And the song for the PTT man was superb!!
I have posted about Tower/Veronique before, usually it was negative. So today I will try to be more positive.(Difficult)This station,(As always) has a superb signal, sometimes good presenters, the phone ins work well, jingles are good & they are live!!I have to admit that I have no complaints about them today(Except for a little splatter). This station has the potential to be one of the best on SW,I just hope they realise it.One guy called in on their phone in & said that they were one of “The Three Muskateersâ€

I am afraid you will have to wait a long time for this. Everybody has his own interests I would say. :-)
Nevetheless it's always very intersting to read about your observations concerning the shortwave scene.

He Andy, he QRO Man,

first to Andy. Nice loggings with some comments about the stations quality and programs. Thanks for that, we as operators need sometimes critics like that. :?
Of course, at the moment it seems there are stations from all european countries trying to rock the 48 m-band and all the other free frequencies. Not bad at all. For me as a low powered station from Germany its not easy to find a free and clear freqency. But all in all its too cold outside to have fun with the hobby.
So we will wait till peoples collecting mushrooms left the forest (maybe in Decembre) to go on with our mobile broadcasts.
On the other hand youre right with your opinion of TOWER/VERONIQUE. This station is always a pleasure on listening if they´re on. Nice to have the live phone-in and the happy guys on the mike. The splatter on the other hand is in my opinion no problem, MR. QRO-Man, because they´re on very early, so the other stations could use another frequency, like WMR and RAMONA....ROB007.... RNI WS... Theres enough space on shortwave.
So hope to meet all the european stations there on next weekend again. Have a nice week.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for your your logs and you conversion heh, i enjoyed reading this.

Dj Dipole, yes as low powerstation a clear frequency is essential. no QRM or something, and a good antenna is half the work. keep on rocking on SW.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all your comments. To me,the point about a message board like this is that we all communicate, share opinions & maybe even argue from time to time.As we are all keen Pirate radio fans,I think this is healthy.
Boomerang,I respect your comments, you are free to do as you please. But with a signal as good as yours, you could do more. It's just my opinion...........
DJ Dipol........Get rid of the mushroom pickers!!!I did many years of "Mobile" operations, out in the woods & fields every Sunday, whatever the weather........it is hard!
Radio Ramona, keep it up,a great little signal on a good clear channel & your programmes are great!

Andy.

At first hello to Andy, thanks for your very good and critical reports to the free radio scene. Greets to my good friend DJ dipole, you can find him on Sundays in the woods of Central Europe and greets to one of the three musketeers: Radio Boomerang, who is always very busy with the technical part of the hobby, forget to make a proper program for the dx's, but as a very 'old' pirate , I respect every's one choice!!
For the younger pirates like Ramona, it nice to have some new ones in the scene. I think there is 'space'(man) enough in the 48 mb for all the old and new ones, as we can go up to 6500 kHz.
Lets make fun and all the best to all music- and pirateslovers in the world.

Hi Ramona & Tom,

Firstly to Ramona,I'm afraid you are confusing me with another Andy,he is an old Pirate too,but not quite as old as me..........
Tom,you are right, respect to all Pirates, old & young. It is just as satisfying to hear an old Pirate still on the air as it is to hear a new station. Both are most welcome. But we should all be open enough for a little bit of light criticism. This will only help to improve things.
I really can't remember the International Pirate scene being so vibrant & so active.Maybe in the early 70's on Medium Wave in London.......but that was only for a small audience.
Good luck to all the operators out there, keep it up,let us inspire more stations(And help make some space for them)Long live Pirate Radio!!

Andy.

The Andy you are thinking of is Andy Walker of WNKR a very close friend of mine he was at the summer meeting this year.
If it was last year you are thinking of Steve from radio Underground, he was also there this year with Andy.
