I am not a fanatical football fan,but I do love my football & do support a major London club. And I have found that I have started to watch a lot of TV(I don’t watch much normaly) and listen less to radio since The World Cup began.I am curious what difference The World Cup has made to listening habits of readers of this forum.Of course it depends on your interest in football & also if your country is involved or not,but I think it would be interesting for people to post their opinions.

I got up early for me on a Sunday as it was so hot & was rewarded by catching Orion Radio(You do come on early!!)And a fairly early transmission by Radio Spaceman.

Busy enough considering that the World cup is on.Very quiet during the Netherlands match…………..not that I was listening,I was watching the game too!Well done The Netherlands!!No German stations heard at all, maybe diehard fans.Well done Germany too!!But then again,German stations not heard often enough.UK & Irish stations on.Ireland not in the World Cup,well done England!!

Radio Underground very strong here on Saturday, does that mean it was poorly received in the rest of Europe?(They are not too far from me).

Nice to see Radio Spaceman return to the airwaves! The usual superb signal & choice of music.

Solar Radio is a new UK station to me,although I suspect they have some history. Why is it that all the English stations seem to come from the London area or The Midlands?

Island Radio from Ireland had a slightly better signal than LHH here in London.

Hallo Andy,

thanks for the logs and the thoughts about football vs. pirate radio..
Think a lot of Germans are diehard football fans, but theres enough time to switch on the transmitters. First game starts at 15.00 MESZ,before is enough spare time.

Yesterday we had several german stations on 48mtrs.
But conditions were very bad, on afternoon all signals were killed. Had a joint broadcast together with ON AIR AM in the afternoon. No reports, but also Mystery Radio and the station on 6310 had only O=1-2. On the morning that station had O=4.
Heard also a nice program of SPACEMAN !
In the morning hours I had also one hour of BERMUDADREIECK program on 6205, after that there was 30 min of Radio DEVALON from Germany and also on 6265 Radio DR.TIM.
So activity in Germany, but maybe no chance for you to catch the signals.

Till next time, maybe we see England vs. Germany in the finale of the World Cup.

Hi DJ Dipol,

Thanks for the comments.Yes it does seem that some German stations do not get into the UK that well.Having said that I have heard some excellent signals & programmes from some German Ops,especially Radio Enjoy Deluxe, one of my favorites. Not only does he have superb modulation but I like his laid back music and soft voiced presentation.

To the football............yes it would be nice for England to play Germany.Much is spoken & written in both our countries about "The old enemies".This may be true in sport, but except for a few very old people there is no more hatred between our countries.I think most English people now respect Germans & I feel the opposite is true too.
If we do meet, may the best team win.And remember.....it's only a game!!
