Shortwave Radio Martha? Mossa? Mother? Moca?

Heard first on Tuesday night around 21 - 22 UTC on 6933 KHz.

Plays mainly jazz, and pre-recorded IDs in English, with e-mail shortwaveradiom????a@hotmail.com

BTW, the name is a bad choice for international use on the short waves.

I tried many variants and no one was a good one.

Wants to make its e-mail address the address for all pirate radios in the Mediterranean area.

So they should spell their name if they want to receive any e-mail...

Heard again on Wednesday night around 22 UTC and till Thursday morning about 5.30 UTC.

The signal is stronger than the neighbour Laser Hot Hits on 6945 kHz.

Ray

Edit : the correct name is Shortwave Radio Malta (thanks to the Franja blog)
and the hotmail address does not include "radio" nor any dash

Yes Ray, Shortwave Radio Malta .... heard here in the UK and also logged by several North American DXers.

Terry in Newfoundland sent me a recording:

The big question is whether it is coming from Malta.

I have heard Malta the past 4 nights here. Last night I had an opportunity to compare the signals of Malta and Irish Music Radio on 6930. Props were very different ... as one station would fade in, the other would fade out ... back and forth. Assuming IMR is from the Britch Isles, I am pretty sure that Malta is not.

Last night, Malta moved from 6933 t0 6937 (i assume to move away from IMR). At 0031 I heard several musical pieces that were very Arab in sound, but with more rythm than most Arab music (quite nice actually). Perhaps Maltese? I have posted an audio file at http://www.mediafire.com/?x8crfoo8qbtqo9x

Cheers, Terry

Hi !

Thanks for the replies. SW Radio Malta also heard here on 6937.5 on Saturday afternoon, with a signal much stronger than IMR on 6930 and LHH on 6945. At least an equipment in the class of Mike Radio, to name a station often heard in that band.

Hi Terry!

About SW Radio Malta, you wrote :

Late on Saturday night, I heard probably the same music. Not arabic
music, but oriental music, that means from Greece and Balkans (with
"oriental" from the former East Roman Empire... or later Turkish Empire).

Look for music from Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia... I don't know if Malta has
old connections with Greece, but SW Radio Malta said they wanted to make
their e-mail address the central address for all the pirate stations in
the Mediterranean area, and that is almost nothing without Greece and
the Balkans.
