Logs from Newfoundland, Jan. 29 - Feb. 7

Post by newfoundland dxer »

Hi everyone:

It has been 3 weeks since I last posted my logs. During the weekend of Jan. 23/24, I still had very bad local noise, and conditions were poor, so I only had a few very weak receptions (not included here). By Jan. 29-31, the noise was gone, but conditions were still poor. There were a lot of stations on the air, and I did hear quite a few, but most receptions were just above the noise. (I did not get achance to post last week due to long work hours.)

This last weekend (Feb. 5-7) had very good evening conditions on Friday and Saturday. In fact, conditions were so good Saturday that I was very excited about Sunday morning. Unfortunately, conditions died completely overnight. I rose at my usual 0830 (0500 local) on Sunday, but there were no pirates to be heard at all, not even a carrier! Only the strongest of broadcast stations could be heard! Conditions have improved gradually through the day, but still too poor for pirate reception. (At least I got my logs done :) )

Thanks to all the ops and listeners in Iann's chat for help with IDs, and for making this hobby fun even in the poor conditions.

Hello Terry, Sorry to read this. That's the other side from our hobby. Strainge how conditions are. The nice part is that local conditions in 52mb where great, we could even make nice Qso.

Well hope to have more luck next time.

Post by newfoundland dxer »

Thanks for the replies.

One correction  :

My log from Saturday, Feb. 6

9290,0 . . 1414-1430 . Radio Jan van Gent, moved here to avoid QRM, slightly stronger signal, 24331

should have been:

9290,0 . . 1414-1430 . Mike Radio, moved here to avoid QRM, slightly stronger signal, 24331

Sorry Mike.

Cheers, Terry
