Hello everybody,
after days of reading this charming forum, I finally decided to board myself for my first pirate hunt. Equipment was pretty simple, my shack being made only by a Degen DE1103, so far. Qth is situated in northern Italy, pretty close to the border with France and Switzerland. Have to say that, probably due to good conditions, I was more than satisfied with the results.
Hunt started at 20 UTC. First find was Mistery Radio on 6620 khz. Strong signal (Sinpo 54444). Broadcast was made by the usual (judging by what I read here) non stop pop/dance/techno from the eighties, no dj at all. Also the jingle, played at 20 UTC, was in line with that style (with Echo and disco ambience). It gave the name of the station and its mail addy. Probably, however, despite the very readable signal, it was too much 80's for my ears, so I didn't caught the mail properly. Any help on this would be appreciated! The jingle was followed by a "New York City" track.
I then moved at 20.25 UTC, to find Radio Mazda on 6290. Signal weaker (Sinpo 44444), but absolutely readable. Schlager was the dish of the day (and some polka too). At 20.42 UTC the dj announced the radio would have signed off at 21, and gave e-mail -radiomaxda@hotmail.com- and postal addresses (the latter being spelled in ITU alphabet). At 21.56, after more music, the dj wished good week-end to listeners, mentioning especially dx-ers, and thanked a listener named Gunther for an sms.
Last result of the night was Radio Boomerang, on 6309 (I know many people, here, quoted it others nights on 6280, but it's on 6309 that I had the best signal!). It came really strong, as Mistery did, so Sinpo 54444. At 20.32 UTC, while an instrumental track was playing, the dj greeted (particularly "the listeners in the US") the audience. Then, a 80's pop song started. At the end, the dj spoke again, but soon interrupted himself ("Good evening... oh, one moment"), then gave the station e-mail. At 20.45, he gave the station e-mail again (box73@gmx.net), and signed off. The track playing in that moment was from Liquido.
Before ending, I'd thank everyone in this board for having allowed me to explore a new border in Radio. It's when you think to have understand everything that you discover you haven't!
Expect more logs from me, but rest assured they'll be more short than this one (I'm so enthousiast this morning, I know I've been too long).
73 to everyone,
Chris
