Late logs from Newfoundland, Feb. 12-21

Post by newfoundland dxer »

Hi everyone:

Just a few logs this time, from the last two weekends. The noise level has been high, which I have discovered has been due to the soil around my grounding rods drying out. Fortunately, this is easily fixed. I have also been very busy at work, but I hope this will improve soon.

I did check the pirate bands many times during the past two Saturday afternoons and evenings, but there seemed to be no stations on shortwave.

Friday, February 12
3905,0 . . 2135-2340 . Skyline International Radio
, Guns and Roses, ID, greetings, 43443 at first but increasing ham QRM gradually covered the signal
6924,8 . . 2255-2305 . Outhouse Radio
(US), computer generated ID, "They're Coming to Take Me Away (To the Funny Farm)", 34342

Sunday, February 14
5815,0 . . 0832-0922 . Orion Radio, talk by John over Hawaiian-style guitar music, greeting listeners and wishing them good morning, slight echo effect on voice, 34342
6305,0 . . 0902-0910 . Cupid Radio, barely audible music, no sign of parallel 15070 this early, ID via Iann's chat
6400,4 . . 0910-1425 . Radio Star International, music and talk, severe QRM from ute on 6400,0 and Korea on 6398,8, peaked at 32441 around 1030, faded to barely audible after 1200 but remained audible longer than other stations, ID via Iann's chat

6375,1 . . 0945-0951 . Radio Rob, barely audible music and talk, also heard at same level on 6376,0 at 1023, ID via Iann's chat

15070,1 . 1304-1503 . Cupid Radio, pop music, lots of IDs and greetings, up to 44443

6925,1 . . 2218-2224 . Pirate Radio Boston (US), started as barely audible with music, improved dramatically around 2220 as announcer gave email, signal up to 44443 at 2224 c/d
5385,4 . . 2315-2320 . The Crystal Ship (US), very weak music, QRM from nearby utility, 32441, ID via email
846,0 . . . 2322-2350 . Radio North (tent), slow country song audible at tune in, fading in and out, caught a few words in English that sounded like an Irish accent, severe QRM from 50 kW Boston station on 850. Had to use narrow filter, but still could only hear 846 when 850 was talking (when 850 played music, no hope). I will try for this station again earlier in the night, when QRM should be less.

Cheers, Terry
