Logs from Newoundland, Dec.28-Jan.3, more bad conditions

Post by newfoundland dxer »

Hi everyone:

It was another week of horrible conditions and loud noise. Most receptions were just above the noise or very poor. I can only hope that conditions improve soon (I thought sunspots were supposed to help! :?)

Monday, December 28
1715,0 . . 0005-0020 . Grensjager Radio, very weak music and talk, ID via Iann's chat, 24341
6290,0 . . 1043-1046 . UNID, barely audible music, c/d 1046
3890,0 . . 1957-2005 . Skyline Radio International, "Kentucky Woman", ID, 34432

Wednesday, December 30
3935,0 . . 0818-0825 . Radio Jan van Gent, weak music under loud ham QRM and strong noise, ID via Iann's chat, 22241
6870,0 . . 0940-0950 . Pirate Music, pop music, ID, 34342
7669,6 . . 1040-1046 . Radio Baken 16, weak talk and music, ID via Iann's chat, 24341
6449,9 . . 1046-1055 . Radio Marconi, weak talk and music, ID via Iann's chat, 24341
6300,0 . . 1515-1525 . Radio Boomerang, instrumental version of "I Can't Help Falling in Love With You", ID, c/d 1525, 34442
6310v . . . 1826-1845 . Radio Mazda, music, ID, SMS number, 34442
1634,0 . . 2030-2040 . Radio Barones, pop music, ID and talk, 24341
1650,0 . . 2052-2100 . Radio Boomerang, the strong US station on this frequency had not faded in yet, so I could hear Boomie briefly with music and talk, 24442
3928,0L . 2100-2142 . Radio Jan van Gent, testing in lsb mode, music and IDs. I could hear two US hams on top for the first few minutes, who discussed the music they could also hear (they thought it was a BC station), up to 34442 at 2142 c/d
3905,8 . . 2238-2248 . Radio Black Arrow, music audible under extreme ham QRM, ID via Iann's chat, 22441
3903,8 . . 2251-2255 . Radio Sallendse Boer, weak music under loud ham QRM, 22441

Thursday, December 31
7640,0 . . 1650-1655 . UNID, barely audible music, too weak for ID
3333,8v. . 2049-2220 . Radio Bila Hora (tent), occassional bits of music breaking through the noise and QRM. Canada's time signal station CHU is on 3330, and was splattering horribly onto Bila Hora, 22431

Friday, January 1
6925,0u . 0025-0035 . Undercover Radio (US), ID, email and snail mail addresses for QSLs, said was about a year behind with QSLs (worse than LHH!), AC/DC "Highway to Hell", 34443
6930,0u . 0135-0145 . Wolverine Radio (US), pop music, SSTV, ID, 34432

Saturday, January 2
6275,5 . . 1330-1340 . WNKR via Channel Z (US) (tent), pop music and British accented announcer, sounded similar to other WNKR relays, nothing heard in Europe, and Z has used this frequency before, 24341
6308,5 . . 1530-1625 . UNID, barely audible music, Iann's chat reported the station was relaying Nordzee, maybe a relay by Sonnet?
6209,8 . . 1935-1940 . Radio Black Arrow, barely audible music, ID via Iann's chat
6924,0 . . 2154-2200 . Captain Morgan Shortwave (US), blues music, ID, 34342
5385,3 . . 2323-2330 . The Crystal Ship (US), music and talk barely audible above the noise and ssb QRM, ID via email, 23341

Sunday, January 3
5815,0 . . 0757-0920 . Orion Radio, music, ID, wishing listeners a "good morning", only short bits of speech and music audible between loud bursts of noise, 24331 at first, improving a little by 0920
6308,8 . . 1008-1020 . Radio Xanadu (UK fm pirate) relayed by Sonnet Radio Europe, barely audible music and talk, ID via Iann's chat, 24341
6375,0 . . 1054-1100 . Continental Radio, another barely audible signal, ID via Iann's, chat
6280,2 . . 1100-1110 . Radio Spaceshuttle, barely audible music and talk, ID via Iann's chat
6210,0 . . 1118-1125 . Voice of the Netherlands, even VOTN was barely audible today, a sign of just how bad conditions were, ID via Iann's chat
6400,0 . . 1132-1140 . Radio Contact, even weaker than the previous stations, just a few hints of music and talk, ID via Iann's chat.

Cheers, Terry
