Logs from Newfoundland, May 11-17

Post by newfoundland dxer »

Hi everyone:

Interesting week here on "the rock". The long days of summer are really cutting into my listening now. 48m is not fading in until around 2100, 76m around 2200, and mornings, it gets light at 0745 utc. This has certainly limited my European listening. ](*,) (Special thanks to Sonnet for the late night tests! :pirate-great: ).

I did snag a couple interesting stations this week, though. I finally identified a weak French station on 1710kHz as Radio Soleil International, an unliscensed, out of band community station for Haitian immigrants in Brockville, Mass. (www.radiosoleilinternational.com). The website lists an old frequency, but the operator confirmed my reception on 1710.

Also new for me was Delta Oscar (with a 5 watt test, new QRP record for me from Europe), Bogusman and WRInternational (caught an ID, finally).

 By the way, if there is anyone interested in some higher frequency, daytime tests, please send me a pm. I caught Nova on 9290 last weekend (with 40w) and WRInternational seems to be a little better every week. I would also be happy to post any planned tests on frn if you would like.

Hi Terry,
It was a nice surprise to see WR International logged amongst the stations that you heard this weekend 17-05-2009. Also thanks for the e-mail a reply has been sent.
